This intimate week-long tour vacation will steal your heart as it brings together extraordinary scenery with Ireland’s rich heritage and music, shared in the company of a native of Ireland and local guide. Throughout, there is time to walk, write, sketch, golf, fish, relax, shop and explore castles, gardens, sacred sites and antiquities. This is an intimate group limited to 12 people.

Itinerary




Meet up at the door of Merick Hotel In Galway. Sept 9th at 9am

My suggestion would be to fly to Shannon  or Dublin and travel to Galway a day or two before hand to get over jet lag!

Day 1 - Sept 9


9:00am - Drive to Lough Inagh through Connemara National Park stopping at the famous Kylemore Abbey to tour the Abby and gardens. Continuing on to have lunch at Blackberry Café in Leenane serving fresh local mussels, irísh stew, good local fare.  After lunch stop at a local sheep farm and learn how people lived years ago. Here you can learn how to shear a sheep and cut peat from the bog!!

Check into Lough Inagh Inn and spend the afternoon taking in the beauty of this area.

The day wraps up with dinner and evening entertainment with John and Brendan Joyce - local muscians and meeting fellow travelers



Day 2 - Sept 10th


After breakfast we will take a 15 minutes drive to the trail head  to take a 30 minute walk  up the stony track  for 600 feet to Mám Éan ( the pass of the birds ) this is a very important pre Christian site deep in the Maumturk mountains. Afterwards we will  travel to Castlebar, Co Mayo to the museum of country life and experience traditions of rural Ireland from 1850 - 1950.  Then on to  to Westport for shopping and lunch. We will return to Lough Inagh trrough an area called the Valle of Tears.

Today can also be a day of relaxation and exploration of the area.  There are four bicycles at the Inn so a ride around the lake would be a possibility. Optional fly fishing trip can be arranged.

Day 3 - Sept 11th


 The Burren is one of Europe’s most iconic landscapes and today we will explore and take a short walk on it with expert Mary Howard.  The rolling hills of Burren are composed of limestone karst. The region supports arctic, Mediteranean and alpine plants side-by-side, due to the unusual environment. After that we will  lunch at Dromoland Castle  one of Ireland's most famous Baronial castles dating From The 16th Century.  After lunch we will make our way  to the delightful town of Kenmare  in County  Kerry where we will spend the next two nights. 


Overnight at the Park Hotel and enjoy a sumptuous dinner. 

Day 4 - Sept 12th


This will be a full day of breathtaking beauty!  We will explore the Ring of Kerry including coffee at  Avoca Restaurant  to enjoy the view from Molls Gap, a visit to  the Tudor style Muckross House  located in Irelands first national park,  Torc waterfall, Derrynane House the ancestral home of the Liberator Daniel O’ Connell.


Overnight at Park Hotel in Kenmare.  Music at local pubs.





Day 5 - Sept 13th


Today we will venture out onto the remarkable little town of  Dingle located at the tip of the Dingle penninsula.   This area has been described as "one of the most beautiful places on earth" and you will see why.  Along the way we will stop for a walk at the beach of Inch which was the location for the movie Ryan's Daughter.  



Overnight at  award winning Castlewood Hotel with dinner served at one of the local restaurants.


Music starts at 9:30pm in the village

Day 6- Sept 14th


Slea Head area, the western and most spectacular region of the Dingle Peninsula at our doorstep this morning.  From Slea Head one can see the Blasket Islands which are the last outposts of Europe and are known as the “next parish to America”. They are famous for the literary and linguistic heritage of the former inhabitants. However, these remote islands have been uninhabited since the 1850's.


Overnight in Castlewood Hotel. 


Music begins at 9:30pm in the village

Day 7 Sept 15th


Today we  will journey  back through the Dingle peninsula to the charming little town of Adare County Limerick  filled with the most wonderful shops and boutiques.  


We will overnight at the Dunraven Arms hotel.  


Last evening will be a time of sharing our experiences over a wonderful meal at the hotel







Terms & Conditions

COST PER PERSON OF $2,800 INCLUDES:

All in-country ground transportation except from airport to hotel; breakfast every morning except the first, dinner for five nights of the trip; hotel with double/twin room accommodations; meal gratuities for meals provided, permits and entrance fees;  trip manager , driver/guide.


NOT INCLUDED: 

Airfare to Ireland. Airport departure taxes; passport and visa fees; excess baggage charges; laundry; telephone calls or other personal items; alcoholic beverages; meals not specified in the itinerary; tips to room maids; tips to local guides, if any (optional, yet customary); taxis to non-scheduled events; medical, hospital or evacuation costs.

(Supplemental accident and baggage insurance is strongly recommended.)


RESERVATIONS:

Early reservations are recommended since group size is limited to just 12 people and the journey requires adequate preparation time. To reserve a space, submit the registration along with $500 deposit per person.


PAYMENT:

To confirm your place send a signed copy of the registration with $500 deposit ($250 non-returnable)  by check payable to Patricia Gross at 205 Ridgewood Drive, San Rafael, CA. The remainder of the funds, including a single room supplement if applicable, is due by May 1st, 2014.


CANCELLATION FEES & TRANSFERS:

Written cancellations must be received by Patricia Gross by letter or fax. We calculate your refund based on the day we receive written notification. Regardless of reason or cause, cancellations result in the costly processing of letters, phone calls, record adjustments, refund checks, as well as a loss of time which often precludes resale. Thus, without exception, there is a nonrefundable cancellation fee of $250 per person. The following penalties will apply on cancellations:

Minimum fee: $250 per person

90-120 days prior to departure: $500 per person

60-90 days prior to departure: 50% of trip price

0-60 days prior to departure:100% of trip price unless we find someone to take your place.

Please note that no partial refund will be given for unused travel for any reason once the trip begins.


CANCELLATION INSURANCE:

To protect against loss from cancellation for any reason, or due to an accident or the illness of self or immediate family members, cancellation insurance is strongly recommended. You may use any Travel Insurance of your choice.


SINGLE ROOM SUPPLEMENT:

$500.00

Travelers wishing to have a single room pay a single room surcharge of $350 and a double room for single occupancy will be assigned where available. For travelers wishing roommates, we try to match single persons with others of the same gender who are requesting a roommate. If you enroll less than 75 days prior to departure and no roommate is available, you will be requested to pay the single supplement rate.


BAGGAGE:

Baggage is at owner’s risk entirely.


SMOKING:

This is a non-smoking group.


RESPONSIBILITY:

Patricia Gross acts only as an agent for the passenger in regard to travel, whether by airplane, motor coach, motorcar, boat or railroad, and assumes no liability for injury, damage, loss, accident, delay, or irregularity which may be occasioned either by reason of defect in any vehicle or for any reason whatsoever, or through the acts or default of any company or person engaged in conveying the passenger, or in carrying out the arrangements for the trip. Patricia Gross can accept no responsibility for losses or additional expenses due to delay or changes in air or other services, sickness, weather, strike, war, quarantine, or other causes. All such losses or expenses are to be borne by the passenger as group rates provide for arrangements only for the time stated. The right is reserved to substitute hotels of similar category for those indicated. Right is reserved to decline to accept any person as a member of the group or to ask a person to leave the group if the person is deemed disruptive to the group. The signed registration form below shall be deemed to be consent to the above conditions. Any disagreement will be settled by mediation in Marin County, in the State of California. If resolution cannot be reached through mediation, parties agree to arbitration in Marin County, in the State of California.
